Story details

Major General Turki Al-Malki, spokesperson of the Coalition to Restore Legitimacy in Yemen, said the Taibah electricity distribution station in Madinah was targeted at 5:11 a.m. on Tuesday, 29 September 2026. According to the statement carried by the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) on 1 October, the investigation by the competent authorities and the wreckage of the drone used showed that the Houthis planned and carried out the attack, which the Coalition described as a terrorist act.

According to the Coalition, the attack took one power transformer out of service but did not affect the electricity network. The statement stressed that the facility is a civilian installation supplying electricity to the Prophet’s Mosque.

The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned the attack on 1 October and expressed solidarity with Saudi Arabia. SPA reported condemnations from Qatar, Kuwait, Egypt, Jordan, Pakistan, the Arab League and the Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council.

The attack followed an earlier incident targeting Saudi energy infrastructure: on 11 September an official source at the Ministry of Energy said the East–West Pipeline in the Riyadh and Madinah regions had been subjected to multiple attacks on the morning of 10 September and shut down as a precaution. No repair timeline or damage cost has been given for the Taibah station.
