Story details
The House of Representatives Committee on Petroleum Resources (Downstream) called for statutory safeguards on crude supply to domestic refineries, greater pipeline-surveillance funding and a stable policy setting. Chairman Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere spoke in Abuja at the close of Downstream Week on October 19.
The committee said it was working on Petroleum Industry Act amendments covering domestic crude supply and petroleum-product imports. It also called for imports to address verified shortfalls rather than become a permanent alternative to local refining. These are committee positions and proposed legislation, not enacted new rules.
