Story details

Subsea7 announced on September 23 that Turkish Petroleum Offshore Technology Center AS (TP-OTC) had awarded it additional work under the Sakarya Phase 3 contract in the Black Sea. The company classifies the extension as “sizeable”; under its own contract categories, that means a value between $50 million and $150 million. The range is not the confirmed contract price, which Subsea7 did not disclose in its announcement.

The added scope covers towing the floating production unit associated with the development, as well as installing and connecting its mooring lines. These activities concern moving the unit to its offshore position and establishing its mooring system. Subsea7 linked the work to commissioning of the unit in 2028. The announcement did not specify an offshore operations date, the number of vessels, a towing route or the unit’s capacity, so those details cannot be inferred from the award.

Project management and engineering will be led from Subsea7’s Istanbul office, and the company said work would begin immediately. That means engineering and project preparation are getting under way following the contract announcement; it does not mean offshore installation or commissioning has been completed. The added work extends an existing Phase 3 contract and broadens its scope within the current project framework.

Subsea7 describes Sakarya as a landmark Black Sea gas development offshore Türkiye. The floating production unit and mooring work form the marine-operations component of the development plan. The extension itself does not announce a new well, a production-capacity figure or a gas-volume target. The tangible milestones to follow are progress on engineering, planning for towing and mooring operations, and the stated 2028 commissioning schedule for the unit.

Two commercial limits matter when interpreting the award: Subsea7 has not published the exact value, and the contract band reflects only the company’s own classification. The 2028 date is given as the planned commissioning year; the release does not say that the schedule is complete or fixed. The announcement is therefore an expansion of marine work under the existing Sakarya Phase 3 contract, not a report of new production already delivered.
