Türkiye introduces new TRY 50 and TRY 5 banknote versions
The central bank put updated E9-series TRY 50 and TRY 5 notes into circulation on 11 September; the new versions will circulate alongside existing notes.
The Central Bank of the Republic of Türkiye said E9-series version IX TRY 50 notes and version VIII TRY 5 notes entered circulation on 11 September 2026. Their signatures include Governor Fatih Karahan and Deputy Governors Gazi İshak Kara and Fatma Özkul.
The bank said the notes are otherwise identical to the earlier versions in dimensions, front and back designs, general features and appearance. Previous and updated notes will remain in circulation at the same time.
The central bank opened a consultation on how its RITS settlement service could support tokenised assets and private money, while saying a retail CBDC lacks a clear public-interest case.
The Bank of Japan voted 7–2 to raise its money-market operating target to around 1.25%, effective 24 September, and changed rates on two standing facilities.
