DRC reviews structuring options for Grand Inga hydro project
The project council reviewed structural choices and environmental and social implications; the Presidency described 40,000 MW as a long-term project target.
The Democratic Republic of the Congo’s Grand Inga project strategic council met in Kinshasa on 8 October to review project-structuring options and environmental and social implications, the Presidency said in a report published on 9 October. ADPI Director General Bob Mabiala announced recruitment of a project director in the context of World Bank financing.
The Presidency describes 40,000 MW as a long-term target for the project’s generating capacity. That figure is not operating capacity or output already delivered. The report says the council reviewed structuring choices; it does not announce a construction start or say that financing for the full project has been secured.
At the BUILD 2026 conference, Nigeria’s communications minister called for shared African compute infrastructure and cited power, broadband and chip access as constraints.
A 21 October enforcement notice tells public agencies to require equipment-lease registration certificates; it implements an August circular under existing law.
