Story details

Statistics Norway’s service turnover index rose 2.3% in August from July after seasonal adjustment. On a calendar-adjusted basis, turnover was 3.7% higher than in August 2025.

Transport and storage turnover increased 0.9% month on month and 5.0% year on year. The sector result sits within an index covering market-oriented service activities.

Turnover measures the value of sales, so it is distinct from the production index that tracks service output volume. Monthly seasonal adjustment and annual calendar adjustment are separate statistical treatments.

The figures, updated on 6 October, are observed August indicators. They describe the covered service businesses and should not be interpreted as a forecast or as a direct measure of profit or real output. The two rates should not be directly compared without accounting for their different adjustments. The index covers market-oriented services.
