Story details

Québec’s seasonally adjusted merchandise exports, measured in constant 2017 dollars, fell 0.9% in August 2026 from July, after rising 7.7% the month before, the provincial statistics institute reported on 21 October. Exports of iron ores and concentrates declined 10.1% during the month, while heavy fuel oil rose 134.4%, diesel and biodiesel 104.8%, and unwrought copper and copper alloys 39.9%.

For January–August, exports were 2.7% below the same period of 2025 on the institute’s real, seasonally adjusted measure. On a different basis—current dollars, not seasonally adjusted—shipments to the United States declined 3.5% over those eight months while exports to other countries increased 15.5%; total exports on that basis rose 2.0%. The release warns that recent import data are partial and may be revised, so its import comparisons should be treated cautiously.
