Story details

Chevron Corporation announced the commencement of integrated subsea commissioning and flowline hydro-testing operations for the Ballymore deepwater project in the Mississippi Canyon area of the deepwater Gulf of Mexico. Discovered in 2018, Ballymore is situated approximately one hundred and twenty kilometers offshore Louisiana in water depths of nearly two thousand meters, tapping high-quality Jurassic Norphlet sandstone reservoirs.

The development utilizes an innovative subsea tieback design linking three deepwater production wells back to the existing Chevron-operated Blind Faith deepwater semi-submersible platform, located approximately five kilometers away. By leveraging available host processing capacity rather than constructing dedicated new floating hulls, the capital-efficient design reduces execution cycles, cuts upfront capital intensity, and substantially lowers development carbon footprint.

Subsea infrastructure includes twenty-thousand-psi rated subsea trees, insulated high-pressure flowlines, dynamic control umbilicals, and dedicated subsea chemical injection modules designed to mitigate wax deposition and hydrate formation across extreme hydrostatic reservoir regimes. Downhole pressure gauges and permanent acoustic flow sensors transmit real-time telemetry back to host platform control centers.

Initial gross daily production capacity from the Ballymore subsea system is engineered to reach up to seventy-five thousand barrels of crude oil equivalent per day. Produced hydrocarbons will be processed through upgraded separation trains on the Blind Faith host before entering existing commercial trunkline export pipeline networks servicing Gulf Coast refining complexes.

Chevron emphasized that deepwater Gulf of Mexico production remains among the lowest carbon-intensity crude barrels in the global energy industry due to modern subsea architecture and high reservoir productivity. The company reaffirmed that first oil production from Ballymore remains on schedule to commence following the conclusion of final subsea system integration tests.
