China’s consumer price index rose 0.8% in August from a year earlier and 0.4% from July, the National Bureau of Statistics reported on 10 September. Average CPI inflation for January through August was 0.9%.

Food prices fell 1.4% year over year, while non-food prices increased 1.2%. The index excluding food and energy rose 1.0% annually. On a monthly basis, transportation and telecommunications prices rose 1.7%, while fresh vegetables increased 5.5%.
