China retail sales rise 0.4% in August as year-to-date growth reaches 1.1%

China’s total retail sales of consumer goods reached 3.98 trillion yuan in August, up 0.4% year over year, the National Bureau of Statistics reported on 16 September. Sales for January-August totaled 32.76 trillion yuan, an increase of 1.1%.

August sales excluding automobiles increased 2.5% year over year. For the first eight months, online retail sales of goods and services reached 13.48 trillion yuan, up 4.6%; online sales of goods rose 4.3% and online services 5.1%.
