Japan’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 2.5% in August, up 0.1 percentage point from July, the Statistics Bureau reported on 2 October. The number of unemployed people was 1.80 million, down 20,000 from a year earlier.
The number of employed people reached 68.49 million, an increase of 140,000 from August 2025 and the first year-over-year rise in two months. The release refers to the August Labour Force Survey and reports the unemployment rate on a seasonally adjusted basis.
