Story details

Nigeria’s Federal Ministry of Livestock Development unveiled revised agricultural curricula and national occupational standards for technical and vocational education institutions and colleges of education on October 19. Livestock Minister Idi Mukhtar Maiha said training should address practical skills in animal production, breeding, nutrition, health, biosecurity, pasture, processing and marketing.

The ministers of livestock development and education called for functional farms, modern training facilities, workplace learning and coordination on assessment and accreditation. Maiha cited a livestock-market value of about US$3.2 billion, while describing a skills gap; the announcement sets out a curriculum and implementation needs, not measured gains in output or employment.
