Story details
TotalEnergies SE and Angolan national concessionaire Sonangol announced major engineering milestones advancing the joint development of the Cameia and Golfinho deepwater discoveries located in Block 20/11 within the pre-salt Kwanza Basin offshore Angola. The offshore project is situated approximately one hundred and fifty kilometers southwest of Luanda in water depths ranging from seventeen hundred to two thousand meters, establishing Angola s first deepwater pre-salt commercial production center.
The development concept centers on an electrified Floating Production Storage and Offloading vessel connected to a standardized subsea production network. The FPSO is engineered with a crude processing capacity of seventy thousand barrels of oil per day and combined gas compression modules capable of handling up to one hundred and fifty million cubic feet of associated natural gas daily.
To minimize operational carbon intensity, the FPSO design incorporates an innovative all-electric drive topsides architecture, waste heat recovery systems, and closed-loop flare gas recovery compressors. Associated gas that is not utilized for offshore power generation will be exported via a dedicated subsea trunkline to the Angola LNG liquefaction plant in Soyo, eliminating continuous routine gas flaring.
Geomechanical and seismic reservoir characterization confirms that the pre-salt carbonate reservoirs at Cameia and Golfinho exhibit excellent permeability, high reservoir energy, and light crude oil characteristics with low sulfur content. Subsea flow assurance analyses validate insulated subsea production loops designed to prevent hydrate formation across deepwater seafloor temperatures.
TotalEnergies and Sonangol emphasized that developing the Kwanza Basin unlocks an entirely new offshore exploration and production province for Angola. The joint venture continues working closely with the National Oil, Gas and Biofuels Agency to finalize major EPC contract awards and secure long-term industrial participation for local fabrication yards in Lobito and Ambriz.
TotalEnergies underscored that deploying standardize subsea tree assemblies and deepwater multiphase flow monitoring allows offshore operations to maintain high availability while reducing maintenance interventions. The joint venture continues to optimize logistics supply bases along the Angolan coast to streamline offshore crew transfers and material deliveries.
