The UK Consumer Prices Index rose 3.1% in the 12 months to August 2026, up from 2.9% in July, the Office for National Statistics reported. The CPI increased 0.5% during August, compared with 0.3% in August 2025.

CPIH, which includes owner-occupiers’ housing costs, rose 3.3% over the year. Transport, particularly motor fuels, made the largest upward contribution to the monthly change in both annual rates.
