The quantity of goods bought in Great Britain’s retail sector increased 0.5% in August 2026 after falling 0.5% in July, the Office for National Statistics estimated. June’s rise was revised down to 0.6% from 0.7%.

Across the three months to August, retail volumes rose 0.9% from the previous three months and 2.4% from a year earlier. ONS said non-store retailers partly recovered from July’s declines and department stores picked up after stock-availability issues.
