The U.S. Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers rose 0.4% on a seasonally adjusted basis in August 2026 and 3.4% over 12 months, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported. The annual increase was above July’s 3.2%.
Gasoline prices rose 3.9% in August and accounted for more than one-third of the monthly all-items increase. The energy index gained 2.1%; the food index rose 0.1%. These figures track consumer prices, unlike the separate producer-price measure.
