Story details

The U.S. Treasury said on 9 September that FinCEN had identified about $17.5 billion in suspicious financial activity potentially linked to health care fraud. Its Financial Trend Analysis reviewed 5,702 Bank Secrecy Act reports filed by financial institutions from March 2025 through February 2026.

The reports flagged suspected activity involving Medicare, Medicaid and private insurance. Treasury said home health care businesses appeared as the suspected provider in 20% of reports. These are suspicious-activity indicators submitted by financial institutions, not a final finding that all reported funds were fraudulent or recovered.
