Story details
Norway’s Ministry of Energy said on 7 October that the government proposes NOK 30 million in the 2027 budget to strengthen digitalisation at the Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate (NVE). The ministry said artificial intelligence could be used to check whether licence applications are complete and that additional staff are also proposed to help process more cases.
The announcement says NVE received around 730 notices and applications for power and grid development licences in 2025, about 50 more than in 2024 and nearly 200 more than in 2022. It also proposes digital coordination work between NVE and the Norwegian Energy Regulatory Authority to reduce industry reporting and improve economic regulation. These are budget and administrative proposals, not evidence that funding has been approved or processing times have already fallen.
