The DRC’s Strategic Investment Fund, FIS-RDC, said it and EnPower, Gridworks Partners and Trafigura signed an investment memorandum in Kinshasa on 6 October for the Kalumbila–Kolwezi Interconnector Project. The planned link would connect Kalumbila in Zambia with Kolwezi in the DRC’s Lualaba province.
FIS-RDC describes a 190 km, 330 kV line, three associated substations and N-1 redundancy. The project aims to improve power availability and reliability for the Lualaba and Haut-Katanga mining corridor. The memorandum formalises the partners’ intention to structure the project and starts detailed assessment; it does not report a completed line or operating capacity.
The Western Desert development is designed to process up to 100 million standard cubic feet of gas per day; start-up activity does not mean full production.
