Story details
Statnett said on 2 October that three new monitoring systems were installed in early August on the Sima–Samnanger transmission line, at the Fyksesundet, Granvinsfjorden and Osafjorden crossings. The work also added 20 vibration dampers and was carried out for Statnett by OPP Kraftledningstjenester. The company says the line faces high ice loads and strong winds.
The D-fjord systems pair line-vibration sensors with a weather station measuring wind direction and speed, allowing Statnett to compare conditions across spans over time. The first system was installed on the Vik–Sogndal line across Sognefjord; a fifth is planned for Storfjorden in spring 2027. Statnett says the data may support more targeted maintenance and reduce unexpected failures, but reports no realized savings or measured lifetime extension.
