Geothermal direct-use heat

Separate delivered thermal energy from pump electricity consumption.

Inputs are sent to the server for this calculation without being saved or added to the URL. Saving a scenario stores it only in this browser.

Formula and assumptions

Single-phase, constant-density and constant-heat-capacity approximation for direct heat use. Supply and return must use the same temperature basis. The user-selected delivery efficiency accounts for heat losses. Thermal output and pump electricity are separate energy streams; thermal kW is not electrical generation. Phase change, reservoir sustainability and heat-exchanger design are excluded.

Pₜ = ρ × (Q / 3600) × cₚ × (T_supply − T_return); P_delivered = Pₜ × η / 100; Eₜ = P_delivered × h / 1000; E_pump = P_pump × h
