Hydrostatic pressure

Calculate static liquid-column pressure using true vertical height.

Inputs are sent to the server for this calculation without being saved or added to the URL. Saving a scenario stores it only in this browser.

Calculation inputs

Enter decimals with a point or comma, without thousands separators. Blank optional values stay unknown.

kg/m³greater than: 0 · maximum: 5,000
m TVDminimum: 0 · maximum: 30,000
bar(g)minimum: 0 · maximum: 10,000
Clear inputs

Example inputs are illustrative, not data from a real well.

Formula and assumptions

Assumes a static, constant-density liquid column and standard gravity. Use the vertical height of the actual liquid column, not measured bore length. All total pressures are gauge pressures. Friction, gas, temperature-dependent density, pore/fracture pressure and operational suitability are not assessed.

Δp = ρ × 9.80665 × TVD / 100000; p(g) = p_surface(g) + Δp
