Partial source coverage. Status and company roles are reported by each source, not independently verified as current. Unknown does not mean zero.

Boreholes and sidetracks may share a well ID. Counts describe these source snapshots, not market size. Catalogue labels describe the source, not territorial boundaries. Permitted locations may not have been drilled.

YOUR FILTERED SELECTION

What can this selection tell us?

These summaries follow the same filters as the records below. Each number describes the available source records, not the global well population.

Data behind this view ↗

How much is reported?

A reported field is present, not necessarily accurate or current. Filtering on depth or date also changes the denominator.

What were these boreholes for?

Select a purpose to narrow the records. These classifications come from source descriptions; they do not establish current operations.

How deep are the reported boreholes?

Measured depth follows the borehole path. Each source has its own distribution and axis; reference levels remain unchanged. This is not vertical depth, and sources are not pooled.

The shaded box contains the middle half of reported depths, from the 25th to the 75th percentile. The line marks the median; whiskers show the observed minimum and maximum.

What these comparisons mean

Every retained point in this source selection is included. Missing values and gaps break the line; values are not filled or clipped. Each chart has its own axis.

National, state and reported-completion series have different scopes. Commodity definitions differ between production and consumption, so their difference is not a net-import measure. Historical and current Statistics Canada oil tables remain separate. Producing-well counts are monthly source aggregates and are not added across months.

BSEE values sum reported completion-month rows, including separate completion records. They are not a reconciled count of physical wells or an official cross-source production total.

Coverage = non-null cells / all cells in files containing that exact channel and unit. Files without the channel are outside this denominator. Counts are weighted by source rows, not averaged across wells.

Two different questions: how many source files contain the channel, and how complete are its values where present? The within-file median gives each file equal weight, including all-null files.

Depth axes and coordinate columns11,688,19511,225,211

Axes, labels and responses are separate cell types. Their combined non-null percentage is not a measurement-quality score.

How do typical log responses vary between source wells?

For each source well, compute a median from every non-null original channel value. The boxes then summarize those well medians, giving each source well equal weight. Depth intervals and geology vary; these are descriptive responses, not reservoir parameters.

How to read the numbers
Median
Half the included values lie at or below this value, and half at or above. It is less sensitive to extreme values than an average.
Middle 50%
The shaded box contains the middle half of reported depths, from the 25th to the 75th percentile. The line marks the median; whiskers show the observed minimum and maximum.
Missing source cells
The source marked a value missing. It is not zero, and we do not fill it in.
source log wells
Source identifiers are not a cross-source count of unique physical wells. Log wells are not automatically joined to atlas boreholes.

Completeness is not accuracy, reserve size, investment value or predictive skill. Borehole records, field production and nearby heat-flow sites have different scopes.

Depth percentiles use linear interpolation (type 7) on finite, positive measured depths in metres, separately for each source and the selected records. The box is a descriptive spread, not a confidence interval.

Sources and methodology

Public administrative records are normalized with stable source identifiers. Original operators, drilling contractors and reported owners remain separate roles. Dates describe source access or reported events; they do not establish live activity. Coordinates are transformed to WGS84 where needed. Confidential records and personal owner fields are excluded. See each source for coverage, attribution and reuse terms.

NSTA data remains subject to source terms. The onshore agreement permits non-commercial use; the offshore layer has no item-level licence specified. Review each source before commercial use or redistribution.
